Both our university's 2019-2020 Academic Year and the Beykoz Institute of Life Sciences and Biotechnology Openings took place with a magnificent ceremony. The opening ceremony which took place at the Beykoz Institute of Life Sciences and Biotechnology was attended by;
Republic of Turkey Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank, Foundations General Director Adnan Ertem, Our University Board of Trustees President Ahmet Akca and Board of Trustees Members, our Rector Prof. Dr. Rümeyza Kazancıoğlu, Members of Parliament, Beykoz District Governor, Beykoz Mayor, Bureaucrats, our Academicians, Administrators and Students.
Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank made an opening speech at the ceremony. "This institute, which was established thanks to the vision of our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, will be a center that will carry the country to higher levels in the field of health technologies. Together with this Institute, we aim to bring 100 academic staff, 10 advanced laboratories and the most respected researchers of the world to our country." Varank continued; "We will strengthen our economic and technological independence by lunging forward with a breakthrough in National Technology. In line with the 2023 targets, we will put all our detailed projects into practice within our Industry and Technology strategy."
Following Mustafa Varank, the Minister of Industry and Technology, Chairman of the Board of Trustees Ahmet Akça carried out his speech; "We are aiming to prepare our institution for the next century by taking into consideration the fact that the Board of Trustees, academic management, administrative management, everyone serving our institution and our government support us." Akça expressed his happiness for being under the roof of Bezmialem Vakıf University, which was established under the enactment of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in 2010 and he underlined that they aim to be a reference institution in their fields and that the university's academic and administrative success is high in support of this objective. Stating that the efforts of the university regarding the preparation of the future also gives them hope, Akça continued; "The Institute of Life Sciences, which we opened today, is actually a genuine example of this."
In her speech, our Rector Prof. Dr. Rümeyza Kazancıoğlu emphasized the excitement experienced at the beginning of each academic term. She quoted that since its establishment, we have taken the tradition of getting 100% quota occupancy in medicine, dentistry and pharmacy faculties one step further this year and have reached 100% occupancy rate in all departments. Our Rector continued; "We are maintaining the education and training activities of more than 3,000 students in our university together with nearly 600 academicians. Our academicians also work in our university hospitals and provide health care services to 7 - 9 thousand patients daily."
Regarding the inaugurated Institute of Life Sciences and Biotechnology; "The Institute we are in right now and have just launched its opening, hosts the reverse brain drain. Within its constitution, 18 academicians, 6 of whom are foreign nationals, carry out their research. Our Rector finally addressed the academics; "As of today I entrust you, just like the others, with our new students who have joined us. I know that you will do your best to provide them with high quality and qualified education so that they can become reliable health professionals of the future."
After the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Nuran Yıldırım gave the first lesson of the academic term. The ceremony ended following the Minister of Technology and Industry, Mustafa Varank's visit to the laboratories and a group photo shoot.
